I love collecting meaningful quotes. When I find especially good ones, I post them on Facebook and Instagram and save them to my Pinterest boards. Where do they come from? Well, I find a lot of them in the books I read.
It’s not a secret. I love to read. Every year, I set a reading goal. Usually, I set it at 50 books. My reading lists are hugely varied. If you look at this post about my favorite summer reads, you’ll find fiction, history, young adult novels, and even juvenile literature. If the story is a good one, I’ll probably enjoy reading it. Have you ever known someone who could quote their favorite movies? I have a daughter who can remember the words to every song. I’m a bit like that with book quotes.
If you’re into good quotes, check out my literary love quotes or my delicious chocolate quotes. Another popular quote post is my collection of dog quotes. Keep reading to see 21 of my best quotes from books.
21 Best Quotes From Books
1. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
I’ve known many fans of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights and it has some great quotes too, but Jane Eyre is my favorite Bronte masterpiece.
2. The Diary of Anne Frank
It’s been many years since I read The Diary of Anne Frank, but I still remember the effect it had on me. It’s good to know it’s still taught in school today.
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. There are so many great quotes found in these books. Recently, this is the one than speaks to me.
4. Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom
This was the first book by Albom I read, but certainly not the last. As a forty-something mother of three, this quote lifts my spirit.
5. An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde
There are so many great quotes from Oscar Wilde’s work, but these days, this one gives me a little courage on the days I really need it.
6. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
I find it hard to believe there are people who don’t love Les Miserables. If you can’t sit through the entire novel, I understand. It’s huge! But try the musical or one of the movies. They’re great too.
7. Digital Fortress by Dan Brown
I’ve never read Digital Fortress, but I love this quote. Impossible takes longer….don’t give up!
8. The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom
It’s true, I find Albom’s work inspiring. Thus, I’ve included another quote from another one of his books.
9. What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami
This one is from another book I have not read, but I love the idea of this quote. Life is not pain free, but we choose how we react to that pain.
10. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Anne of Green Gables is such a feel good story to me. As a daydreamer, this quote makes me smile.
11. The Ersatz Elevator by Lemony Snicket
My kids loved the Lemony Snicket books. I’ve read some of them. Who knew they contained such great lessons? Stop waiting and do it!
12. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
This is one of my all-time favorite books. My 13-year-old son is currently reading it in his literature class. The lessons found within it’s pages are still important, all these years later.
13. The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
On those really rough days, when the news is terrible and I want to bury my head in the sand, it’s reminders like this that keep me going.
14. Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl’s books are filled with great lessons, ideas, and, of course, great quotes. I’m a worrier and I “what if” myself way too much.
15. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Have you seen the trailers for the new Little Women movie? What do you think? I’m kind of excited for it.
16. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
You can’t have a literary quote list without something from Jane Austen. This one reminds me of my younger self. If someone told me I couldn’t do something, I tended to do it just to prove them wrong.
17. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
I truly believe that doing something good is it’s own reward. You don’t need accolades and attention for it. Just go out and do something for someone.
18. All’s Well That Ends Well by William Shakespeare
This is such good advice. If only we were better at following it.
19. The Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum
This quote actually reminds me of Oprah Winfrey. I seem to remember her quoting Glinda the Good Witch on her show. Maybe I’m wrong, but it’s inspirational none the less.
20. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
Yep. It’s another Harry Potter quote. Why? Because I think what makes these stories so great isn’t the magical stuff (which is pretty fantastic). It’s really about the epic battle between good and evil and love versus hate. Who couldn’t be inspired by that?
21. The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exuprey
One last quote from what masquerades as a children’s story. Some pretty adult lessons can be found within it’s pages.
