I recently started a photography project that I am having a lot of fun with. It all started when I was in the local craft store with one of my kids looking for something they need for a school project. I passed a large selection of googly-eyes and thought, they looked like fun. Hmm, what could I do with those?
Fast forward a few months. I was back in the craft store (yes, I go there more than I should) and decided it was time to get some googly-eyes and start a new photo project for myself. Buy just one pack of eyes? Oh no, there were so many to choose from! I ended up with eyes of various sizes and some of them even had these adorable eyelashes!
I started looking for objects in my home to add the googly-eyes to. It made me look at things in a new way. And I had so much fun! It also made me get out my Canon Rebel T3, which usually goes unused thanks to my iPhone. starting a project like this is a good way to get used to or re-used to you digital camera. It is also a good way to practice using Photoshop or another photo editing program.
Here are a few more new friends from my house:
After working for a while in the house, I decided to take my project outside and see what fun I could have around my neighborhood. I found myself looking at my surroundings in a whole new way. In my earlier post on creativity and happiness, I discussed how doing creative things can be so important to our happiness. I experienced this first hand as I worked on this photo project.
It was an over-cast day (perfect for taking photos) and the weather was nice and cool. I spent an hour or so walking, saying hello to neighbors, taking photos, and feeling more relaxed than I had in some time. Some of my former students were playing at the park down the street and it was great to visit for a short while with them.. I breathed in the fresh air, clean from yesterday’s rain showers. It was wonderful!

I had so much fun with this project. In fact, I am going to keep it going, even though when I showed my little acorn friends to my son, his response was , “Are you okay, Mom?” You can find/follow me on Instagram to see more photographs.
Please share with your friends and comment below. I would love to hear about a photo project you’ve worked on!
